The Keerys: Aiden gets all fixed up!

As many of you know that Aiden was born with a lung defect called a CCAM. We had a CT scan when he was one year and those cysts had resolved themselves. As with all hospitals it is required to do a second review of all children's scans(this can be months later). When the radiologist did the second review they found a lesion on Aiden's left diaphragm below the left lung. So we did a repeat CT in February and found that he had extra lung tissue growing outside the lungs called an Extra-lobar Pulmonary Sequestration. Basically he had a non functioning extra lung lobe. It wasn't connected to the trachea but its blood supply was coming from the aorta. It wasn't effecting his breathing until November when he developed a cough that didn't go away for 3 months until the help of breathing treatments. So on Friday (4/20/2012) we had his surgery scheduled to take this tissue out. The surgery went great. On Friday they kept him pretty medicated to keep him still since he had a chest tube to help the fluid and extra gas from the surgery escape. On Sunday his chest tube came out and he was able to get out of bed and be put on a portable monitor so he could walk around and go to the floors toy room. He was getting better pretty quick and he was released from the hospital on Tuesday (4/24). We have very few restrictions and he is off all pain medications. All in all he was a very strong little boy.
